About Gainesville
What is it about college towns? Whatever it is, Gainesville, Florida has it - and more. Here you'll find more oak trees than palm, more brick than stucco, more top-notch arts & entertainment than you would expect, and perhaps the greatest and most eclectic array of fine local eateries anywhere. Gainesville has even been voted the best place to live in America.
But Gainesville doesn't have everything. It doesn't have hour-long commutes, traffic gridlock, snowplows, smoggy sunsets, high unemployment or low gas prices (ok so nobody has cheap gas anymore). It also can't decide which is its preferred coast since they’re both so close (about an hour to the Atlantic, 45 minutes to the Gulf).
Forests, farmland and fresh water surround Gainesville. World-class artists, musicians, physicians, educators and athletes call it home. It is perpetually young, it is organic & laid back. It is rated an "A" school district. It is sometimes called “Hogtown” and it is always home to The Gator Nation. It is also home to thousands & thousands of people who discovered Gainesville and stopped looking for a better place to live.
